At INR 64 lakh (ex-showroom) and INR 76.9 lakh (ex-showroom), both the 330Li M Sport and the M340i in their ’50 Jahre’ edition are a little over a lakh more expensive than the standard versions of these two cars. So here’s the question: What do you get for your extra lakh?
Both the BMW 330Li M Sport and the BMW M340i ’50 Jahre’ editions feature a special laser-engraved 1/50 emblem near the B-pillar, signifying that each is part of a special batch of 50 units each. The 330Li M Sport, in its long wheelbase (LWB) version, gets a high gloss shadowline, carbonfibre trim, a head-up display, and a 3D augmented view. The sportier M340i, on the other hand, gets M performance door pins, special ’50 Jahre’ emblems and hubcaps, black M badged fenders, and a black badge at the rear.

The mechanicals and powertrains remain the same as the standard cars, with the 330Li M Sport being powered by a 2-litre 4-cylinder twin-turbo petrol engine producing 258hp. The M340i uses the much larger 3-litre straight six that puts out a heart 374hp. Both cars are being produced in India at BMW’s factory near Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and are available exclusively on the BMW Online Shop.

Back in 1975, when BMW first launched the 3-Series, it became an instant hit thanks to its sporty handling, agile nature, and performance orientation designed to thrill the driver. Enthusiasm for driving pleasure is what drove the reputation of the 3, and BMW has managed to remain true to those essential attributes through successive generations of the car. At the same time, BMW has added elements like safety, connectivity, and technology to keep the 3 at the forefront of a driver’s wishlist of cars. The new 330Li M Sport and the M340i ’50 Jahre’ limited editions pay homage to that legacy of thrilling people who sat behind the wheel.
So, to get back to the question of what do you get for your extra lakh? We’d say a ton of thrill wrapped in the golden glove of an iconic heritage. If that isn’t 50 shades of 3!
