While India was busy celebrating Independence with the tricolour, British marque Bentley revealed a one-off commission so unique that it took the crew at the factory in Crewe more than 56 hours to paint it! Say hello to the ‘Ombre’ by Mulliner – Bentley’s own bespoke division.
Unlike mass-produced vehicles for the masses, the world of luxury has a preference for bespoke handcrafted products that involve genuine human craftsmanship. This sparkling blue Bentley Continental GT Speed was, therefore, painstakingly painted by hand by two master technicians. The new technique developed by Mulliner during this process has been christened Ombre and can be commissioned by owners.
Colour being the predominant focus on the Ombre, Mulliner’s technicians first sprayed the Continental GT Speed in contrast colours, Topaz and Windsor Blue, from front to back. The blend of the two colours was then applied in multiple stages using paint, which was tinted by traditional processes to create a unique gradient of one colour transitioning to another.
What makes this process even more coveted is the fact that each paint reacts differently during this process. As a result, no two Bentleys featuring the Ombre process will be identical even if their owners choose the same palette. This is great news for Bentley owners who prize exclusivity as a foremost quality of the brand.

The exterior of the Continental GT Speed, on which the Ombre process debuted, fades from Topaz at the front till it almost dissolves into the Windsor Blue of the car’s rear. To match this stunning exterior, Bentley provided a matching set of wheels – Topaz up front and Windsor Blue at the back.
Meanwhile, the good folks at Mulliner worked hard to give the interiors a do-over to keep pace with the exterior. Like on the outside, the cabin theme moves from Topaz to a dark Beluga as you move from front to back. The result of all this is the stunner that Bentley dropped on the world with flying colours on India’s 79th.
