At Bellustar Tokyo, the City's Buzz Finds a Way to Settle

Bellustar Tokyo sits above one of Tokyo's most crowded neighbourhoods, built on the idea that a hotel can hold both its noise and its calm at once.

Bellustar Tokyo, A Pan Pacific Hotel, opened in May 2023 in Kabukicho, one of Shinjuku's busiest pockets. But what truly sets the hotel apart is how it brings to life an intriguing contrast: the density of the street below against the stillness of the rooms above. Guest rooms begin on the 39th floor and continue upward from there, each one set behind windows starting from seven metres wide that overlook the city below. The hotel holds 97 rooms in total, ranging from 41 to 277 square metres.

At the top of the hotel, five penthouses form their own tier across floors 45 to 47, ranging from 113 to 277 square metres: Kaze, the duplex Tori and Hana, Tsuki, and Sora, known as the Sky Private Villa. All five come with their own living room, kitchen and bar. The Sky Private Villa sits highest of all, on the 47th floor, with expansive views across the city. It goes further still, with its own spa treatment room, kitchen and jacuzzi, set apart from the rest of the hotel by both height and intent.

Four dining venues run through the hotel, each built around one individual style of cooking. Restaurant Bellustar and Bar Bellustar sit roughly 200 metres above ground: the restaurant serves modern French cuisine made with ingredients sourced from across Japan, while the bar runs a wide list of liqueurs, wine, sake, cocktails and mocktails. Teppan Ten-yu, on the 45th floor, centres on wagyu beef teppanyaki, and Sushi JIN-È serves Edomae-style sushi with views toward Mount Fuji and the Tokyo skyline. For wellness, head to SPA sunya or the in-house gym.

Three years since opening, Bellustar Tokyo has settled into its position at the top of Shinjuku's skyline, one of Tokyo's more deliberate answers to what a hotel in the middle of a busy city can be.
