High in the heart of the Montana Rockies, where snow-draped peaks kiss the clouds and whispering pines guard glacial streams, is a sanctuary unlike any other.
Tucked into 8,100 wild, whisper-quiet acres bordering Big Sky and the wonders of Yellowstone National Park a short drive away, this rare alpine retreat doesn’t just invite you to rest, it teaches you how to exhale.
Here, the air feels crisper, scented with pine, wild sage, and distant wood smoke. Dotted across dense pine groves, the resort’s lodges frame soaring panoramas of iconic landmarks including Lone Peak, Fan Mountain and the Spanish Peaks, ensuring every day is shaped by spectacular scenery.
“One&Only has set soaring standards in ultra-luxury hospitality -- unlocking each destination with integrity, innovation and individuality. We are thrilled to extend this legacy to our first property in the United States with One&Only Moonlight Basin, an unexpected contemporary architectural marvel in the breathtaking landscapes of Montana,” says Philippe Zuber, chief executive officer, Kerzner International.
Set to open on November 18 this year, One&Only Moonlight Basin Montana is designed by the renowned architect Olson Kundig whose modern design blends seamlessly with the awe-inspiring landscape without interrupting nature’s inherent rhythm.
Kundig’s approach to contemporary cabin living features crackling fireplaces, deep soaking tubs, inviting balconies and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that connect with the scenic vista in every direction. The morning sunlight spills across sweeping windows like liquid gold, warming timbered interiors designed to echo the surrounding wilderness.
Clean lines, natural textures, and an open, airy layout create spaces that feel both timeless and intimately connected to the environment. This thoughtful integration of design and nature ensures that every corner of the resort reflects the serene, majestic spirit of Montana.
Here, every detail is curated to lull the senses.
As one will feel at the One&Only Spa that is set to make the most of the majestic mountain setting with a retreat immersed in the elements. It will be offering restorative treatments inspired by ancient mountain rituals. One can also swim in the resort’s heated open-air pool or breathe easy in the revitalising mountain air.
The resort will be home to six bars and restaurants, including the Akira Back restaurant, that will be serving modern Japanese cuisine: Back’s first restaurant in an alpine destination.
Offering guests a sneak peek into the resort’s future experiences, the ultra-luxury brand’s first alpine resort unveiled its brand-new ski lodge, One&Only Sky Lodge, on December 20, 2024. The space is home to The Landing, a new restaurant and bar concept offering locally sourced and seasonal meals, accessible via the One&Only Gondola and by car.
So, for those seeking adventure, one can explore the exceptional and vast alpine ski and snowboard terrain. Snowshoes and Nordic skis beckon, as do fat tyre biking, dog sledding and ice fishing.
