Bvlgari Arrives in Kolkata With Its First Boutique at Quest Mall

Kolkata has a new address for luxury now. On 18 September, Bvlgari opened doors to its first standalone boutique in the city, marking its fourth destination in India after Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Set within a 115-square-metre space at Quest Mall, the city's premier retail destination, the store is more than a shopping stop as it shares an unmistakable devotion to art, architecture and craft.

Inside the Bvlgari store

As we step inside the Roman visual language reveals itself in every detail. Travertine portals echo the city's monumental grandeur, while sculptural counters in travertine and onyx take their cue from the work of Italian architect Carlo Scarpa. Fluted walls reinterpret the elegance of ancient Roman columns and curved showcases catch the light like the last glow of a Roman sunset. Above it all hangs a showstopping Serpenti chandelier by Venini, handcrafted in Murano glass from nearly 300 crystal wands which in itself is a fitting centrepiece for a Maison built on serpentine symbolism. An artwork by Andy Warhol adds a further layer of cultural richness as a nod to the artist's celebrated and well-documented affinity with Bvlgari.

But it is in the details that the boutique truly finds its voice. A bespoke installation by Milan-based artisans Pictalab brings Rome and Kolkata together quite literally, mapping the two cities side by side and joining them with a sinuous Serpenti form. From this landscape rises the Victoria Memorial, rendered in hand-painted detail, three-dimensional motifs and gold leaf which is a befitting artisanal tribute to the city Bvlgari now calls home.

The boutique houses the full breadth of Bvlgari's world including jewellery, watches, accessories and leather goods, alongside its most recognisable icons like the Serpenti, Octo, B.zero1, Divas' Dream, Bvlgari and Tubogas. Two India-exclusive creations round out the offering: the B.zero1 Kada Bracelet and the Bvlgari Mangalsutra, both of which reimagine familiar Indian design traditions through Roman lens.

The evening's opening drew a discerning gathering befitting the occasion. Khushi Kapoor, Sara Tendulkar and Rhea Kapoor were among those in attendance, joined by Shivika Goenka and Shashwat Goenka, Director - Luxury and Education RPSG Group and RPSG Group's Vice Chairman respectively, alongside Stéphane Larher, Bvlgari's Managing Director for the Middle East, Africa and India.

With this opening, Bvlgari extends its Roman universe a little further east, choosing a city whose own creative identity is shaped by centuries of art, architecture and craftsmanship makeing it a natural custodian.

The Kolkata boutique in many ways, is a meeting point of the timeless grandeur of Rome finding common ground with the enduring artistic spirit of the City of Joy.
