Range Rover unveiled its newest flagship model last night in Miami, presenting the SV Black through an installation titled Dipped in Black, which ran from 2–7 December. The all-black SUV underscores the marque’s commitment to what it describes as design purity, achieved through an entirely monochromatic aesthetic.

Positioned at the top of Range Rover’s model hierarchy, the SV Black sits within the SV division, responsible for the brand’s most exclusive vehicles. Pricing has yet to be announced, though SV models typically command substantial premiums over standard Range Rovers. Every surface has been finished in black, including the polished mesh grille and 23-inch alloy wheels, and the brake callipers, which feature darker branding for the first time. Even the rear SV badge receives a black ceramic treatment.

Inside Range Rover’s SV Black

The monochrome theme continues as you step inside. The cabin is wrapped in near-aniline ebony leather with a silky texture, featuring single-panel seat covers that reduce visible stitching, an entirely new construction method for Range Rover. Black birch wood veneers line the interior, while the gear selector is finished in satin black ceramic. Subtle Moonlight Chrome accents add gentle contrast throughout.

Beyond the visual transformation, the SV Black debuts what Range Rover claims is an industry first: the Sensory Floor. Building upon the existing Body and Soul Seat haptic technology, the system extends vibration-based audio feedback through the floor mats, allowing occupants to feel audio frequencies through their feet as well as the seats. Exclusive to SV models, it comes as standard on the SV Black. The technology promises an immersive listening experience, though time will tell whether it becomes a coveted feature or merely a talking point.

The Design Miami Connection

Range Rover’s installation at Design Miami drew inspiration from Mies van der Rohe’s Seagram Building in New York. Its modernist ethos of reduction aligned with the brand’s design philosophy for the SV Black. A recessed interior wall showcased an illuminated golden band displaying black design objects curated with Design Miami’s team, spanning diverse disciplines and cultures. Luxury fragrance house Aeir even developed a bespoke scent for the installation, crafted to embody what they describe as the arresting power of black.

The SV Black arrives as Range Rover continues its ascent into ultra-luxury territory. The British marque, part of Jaguar Land Rover, now sells vehicles in 121 countries and has been steadily expanding its SV division as a showcase for craftsmanship, personalisation, and bespoke design.
