The Porsche 911 GT3 S/C, which had its global premiere late last night, is the only open-top variant in the current 911 range that is designed as a pure two-seater – reminiscent of the 911 Speedster from 2019. For the first time this iconic sportscar features a fully automatic convertible roof. Unlike the earlier Speedster however, this one isn’t on a limited production run and is also available with a Street Style package that will allow owners to further customise their 911 GT3 S/C to their specific tastes.

Although Porsche has remained true to the legendary 911 silhouette, the GT3 S/C’s distinctive wings and doors in combination with the black windscreen surround makes it unmistakable. It gets matrix LED headlights, which combine all front lighting functions, making it possible to omit the additional light units previously found in the front bumper. This allows for a significantly larger area for the air intake – and a more clearly structured appearance. At the rear, the retractable rear spoiler is adorned with a Gurney flap.

Thanks to the innovative use of magnesium ribs, a coupé-like roofline is achieved when the fabric roof is in its closed position. With almost identical contours, the fabric roof stretches in an elegant arc from windscreen frame to roof stowage compartment lid. No structural elements are visible beneath the fabric. Operated by lightweight hydraulic actuators, the soft top can be opened or closed in 12 seconds, at speeds up to 50kmph.

The interior features lightweight carpets and lightweight door panels with carbon-fibre pull handles. Four-way adjustable Sports Seats Plus fitted as standard. Lightweight sports bucket seats with folding backrests and seat shells made of carbon fibre are optionally available for the 911 GT3 S/C. The interior is upholstered in black leather as standard – including the sun visors and the A-pillar trim. The GT3 S/C logo is embroidered in the centre of the rear bulkhead trim. The seat centre panels are finished in perforated leather.

The 911 GT3 S/C also brings to the fore serious weight loss and features lightweight high-quality materials in its construction. Several parts of the car, including the bonnet, wings, doors, anti-roll bars and shear plate are made of carbon fibre. The PCCB brakes that are standard fitment are also 20 kilos lighter than the cast iron braking systems.

The Porsche 911 GT3 S/C is powered by a 4-litre high revving naturally aspirated 6-cylinder engine, which features revised cylinder heads and more aggressive camshafts for a higher performance. Peak power is rated at 510hp. Transmission is via a 6-speed manual gearbox and the car can post a 0-100kmph time of 3.9 seconds before going on to post a top speed of 313kmph.

This new Porsche is expected to be priced at Rs 2.53 crore, significantly more than the regular GT3.

Owners of the new 911 GT3 S/C will also have the option of ordering a special timepiece from Porsche Design – the Chronograph 911 GT3 S/C. It features a GT3 themed dial with yellow accents and a hexagonal pattern that is inspired by the car’s instrumentation. The winding rotor is a nod to the car’s alloy wheels.
