This season, the S-Class gets a Maybach stamp, Porsche’s 911 releases its latest— and fastest—iteration, Rolls-Royce has five special commissions, while BMW’s Vision Alpina signals a new design direction. Then there’s Maserati that brings its Italian convertible magic to India in a Trofeo version, and a one-off Ferrari designed for just one customer. From track-bred engineering to handcrafted details, each model offers a distinct interpretation of modern automotive luxury. Featuring Maserati, Porsche, Ferrari, Rolls-Royce and more, these new models push the boundaries of performance while redefining what luxury on the road can look like.
Recently unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, the BMW Vision Alpina is the official coming-out party of the legendary brand— Alpina—since BMW took over and integrated it as an official sub-brand. Albeit in its concept stage, the Alpina showcases the roadmap of what we are likely to see from the marque in the near future. We cannot stop.
Raving about its 5,200 mm long proportions and roaring V8 engine. The silhouette spells ‘futuristic BMW’ with its sculpted shark nose and kidney grille instantly recognisable, while Alpina’s design cues such as its deco lines can be seen on the body. The coupé roofline sits beautifully atop 22 and 23 inch alloys, complemented by a four-pipe elliptical exhaust. Little design touches like the Alpina lettering on the front make the Vision nifty to look at. We love BMW Alpina’s new design direction for its cabin, with a resolutely minimalistic approach, seen in its generous leather surfaces. BMW’s crystal elements shine through, while metal accents add the historical element to the mix. One does love the restraint exercised in the BMW Panoramic iDrive spanning the dashboard only as much as required, not overwhelming the cabin space. The BMW Vision Alpina is an explicit nod to the B7 coupé dating back to the 1970s, built on the E246 series. It will admittedly be a while before we get behind the wheels of the Vision Alpina, but this little cross-referencing of automotive history and culture is an absolute delight for geeks.
Who doesn’t love a good one-off? The Italian supercar marque recently wowed us with its latest drop from its One-Off series, christening it the HC25. With the iconic F8 Spider as a direct ancestor, Ferrari’s Centro Stile conceived this V8 engine model, to draw parallels with Ferrari’s more futuristic models like the recent 12Cilindri and the F80. The HC25 is an interesting design study, with a resolutely sculpted body that makes it look like two separate parts, the front and the rear, joined together by a central black band. The side profile of the car makes it look arrow-esque with its svelte road presence and muscular stance.
It would be a treat to take this car from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.9 seconds and attain a top speed of 340 kmph, on a track that lends itself to such a performance car. Inside the cabin, Ferrari’s famous yellow accents are visible on subtly placed logos, while ultra-luxurious materials, trims and metal accents used on the inside, along with the signature Ferrari sports steering wheel make this the cockpit of your dreams.
Interesting that only one person will own this car that takes about two years from concept to delivery.
Imagine cruising along the coastal roads of the Amalfi Coast in the quintessential luxury sports convertible: the Maserati GranCabrio Trofeo. With its throaty 3.0 litre V6 Nettuno twinturbo engine that promises a whopping 650 Nm of torque that can go from zero to 100 kmph in just 3.6 seconds, this is the most powerful engine that a GranCabrio has seen.
Designed to accommodate up to four passengers, this is a great option for long trips. A single-finger operation can drop the roof in just 14 seconds with the open-top driving experience at high speeds being further enhanced by design touches to keep the cabin warm and turbulence free. This car features a Trofeo specific front grille with a three-dimensional Trident logo. A classy Trofeo badging appears above the signature triple side air vents. Maserati is all about Italian craftsmanship. Think quality perforated leather, embossed Trident, and metallic accents that characterise the cabin. The iconic Maserati digital clock is present, while the sporty steering wheel sits in front of an interactive 12.2 inch digital dashboard, with a unique Maserati interface, paired to a Sonus Faber speaker system.
An open-top Maserati is a sight to behold while attempting to reach its top speed of 316 kmph, switched onto Corsa mode, the specially designed racing-focused drive mode.
Let’s face it—there is no other luxury saloon that is more widely recognised and recalled than an S-Class. Mercedes-Benz’s (Happy 140th birthday, Merc!) beloved saloon, firmly entrenched in popular culture ferrying the world’s rich and famous, now gets the Maybach badge on its side, further elevating its status. On the outside, it’s love at first sight with the oversized Maybach grille with an illuminated border, while the iconic bonnet star can be optionally illuminated too. That famous Art Deco motif of the Maybach marque acts as a leitmotif through the saloon visible in the grille frame, and projected on the ground when the door is open. Rose gold touches on the headlamps add an opulent touch, while on the inside the ‘beech brown’ cabin is characterised by open-pore wood, grained oak, smooth surfaces, and plush upholstery that mimic a first-class cabin or private jet. The S-Class familiar ambient lighting option gets a Maybach touch too. Comfort doors that operate automatically with the touch of a button can also be added. For the first time, this car offers a leather-free cabin with faux leather and high-end textiles used inside the cabin. This car is ideal to be chauffeured around in, as you sip on champagne from the custom chiller compartment in specially-designed silver-plated Robbe & Berking champagne flutes that come with the car.
When this 911 clocked a Nurburgring lap that was 14 seconds faster than its previous version, this got our antennae up. Precisely, the most powerful Porsche 911 ever built is coming to Indian shores later this year—and it’s a hybrid (of sorts). Cult followers of the 911 will vouch for its ultra precise steering and handling finesse. The new Turbo S amplifies this: all-wheel drive now reinforces the rear engined platform, sharpening both steering response and dynamic control.
Performance-wise, the 911 Turbo S promises some impressive specifications: a 3.6 litre six-cylinder twin turbo engine, and two e-turbos, which punches a jaw dropping maximum torque of 800 Nm and 523 kW of power. It does a 0 to 100 kmph sprint in 2.5 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the previous version. It sports minor cosmetic touches: a Turbonite Porsche badge on the front and a pronounced rear spoiler.” The front and rear see minor design tweaks like a front diffuser for greater aerodynamics. The cabin is pure Porsche sporty chic with its metal and leather juxtaposition, all the hard keys for easy handling at high speeds and analogue displays that have been so iconic over the decades have now gone digital. Frank Moser, vice president of the 911 and 718 models describes this as “the most complete and versatile form of driving a Porsche 911”.
Possibly the most indulgent iteration of the Range Rover SV we’ve seen in recent times, this new car gets an Ultra tag to its name. Straight out of the Special Vehicles Unit (SV), the Range Rover SV Ultra gets the SV Electrostatic Sound technology, converting the cabin into the most enhanced space for an audio experience, a concert hall, if you will. Here, 21 speakers are designed to make each seat an individual listening pod, including speakers integrated into winged headrests. The immersive sound system includes Body and Soul Seats (BASS), as well as a Sensory Haptic Floor.
Imagine the thrill of firing up your favourite playlist on the floating curved touchscreen and embarking on a long road trip, with haptic floor mats throbbing to the beat. The cabin features Range Rover’s signature minimalism, with leather-free interiors and Ultrafabrics in laser-crafted patterns, rattan palm veneer with an open-pore finish. The outside features a new SV Ultra exclusive liquid metal Titan Silver paint, with chrome accents. For now, there are two variants: a plug-in electric hybrid and another with a V8 engine, with an all electric said to be on the cards soon.
This is an artistic collaboration of epic proportions. Contemporary artist Cyril Kongo handpaints a Black Badge Cullinan and the results are astounding. We’re talking about five private commissions, each hand painted by Kongo, in different styles. Using the Black Badge Cullinan, the artist works on the iconic Starlight Headliner, picnic tables, and the console between the rear seats. Working closely with Rolls-Royce’s engineers to create the final result, the artist has created his own parallel universe—the Kongoverse, transforming the cabin into a cocoon of his imagination. On the inside, the cabin features a mix of black with pops of colour, with each car getting its own interior colour.
For the Starlight Headliner, Kongo created planets and a constellation, placing 1,344 minute stars into the canvas to give the effect of being under a starry sky. The woodset is also entirely painted on the centre console, fascia, and picnic tables, keeping up with the British carmaker’s tradition of creating art galleries within car cabins. Fun fact: this series also sees the first-ever Rolls Royce Gradient Coachline, where the trained eye can discern a subtle colour change across the body of the car. This bespoke masterpiece can be found at the brand’s private offices in Goodwood in the UK, New York, and Seoul.
