Around nine months after Mike McCarthy’s Texas home first hit the market for $5.7 million and subsequently failed to trade hands after a contract fell through, the former head coach of the Dallas Cowboys is hoisting his Santa Barbara-inspired residence in the Dallas suburb of Allen back up for sale. The asking price is a reduced $5.3 million, with Carrie Himel of Compass holding the listing.
McCarthy, who was released from the team in January after his five-year contract ran out, acquired the property in May 2021, according to property records. Resting beside a golf course on nearly three-quarters of an acre in the exclusive guard-gated Wimberley Place community, the stucco and terracotta-roof structure was custom-built by Robert Elliott in 2016 and has five bedrooms and seven baths in roughly 8,300 square feet.
Introducing the sprawling two-story abode is an entry foyer with a curving iron-railed staircase that leads to a glass-lined family room sporting a fireplace flanked by shelving, as well as an adjacent kitchen outfitted with an eat-in island, top-tier Miele, Sub-Zero, and Wolf appliances, and a breakfast nook. A wine cooler-equipped butler’s pantry connects to the formal dining room, while a hallway off the foyer leads to a private office.
Also on the main level is a spacious primary suite flaunting a bespoke walk-in closet and a luxe bath with dual vanities, two water closets, and a freestanding soaking tub topped by a glass insert peering into a two-person shower. A separate wing with its own entrance accommodates a guest suite with a kitchenette, a living area, and a bath, while three en suite bedrooms upstairs are joined by a bonus space, a gym, a sauna, and a hidden study nook.
The posh amenities continue in the resort-like backyard, which hosts a waterfall-fed pool and a raised spa abutting an open-air cabana with a kitchen and barbecue setup, along with a fire pit lounge area and a putting green. Out front, a driveway passes through a gated porte-cochère on its way to a pair of climate-controlled garages with room for up to five vehicles, plus a pet kennel that spills out to a dog run.
McCarthy, who was in the running for head coaching openings with the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints, wasn’t able to land a top job for the 2025 season. In addition to this property, he also lays claim to a smaller $2 million Texas home in Plano that was previously owned by former Cowboys defensive coordinator and current Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn.
