Few watches make the question of size quite as interesting as the Rolex Datejust. The classic model is available in several case diameters, but the Rolex Datejust 36 and Datejust 41 remain two of its most popular choices. At first glance, the difference is just 5mm. On the wrist, however, those extra millimetres can change the entire personality of the watch. For 2026, Rolex continues to offer both sizes with the same core formula: Oystersteel construction, a date display with Cyclops lens, 100-metre water resistance and the Calibre 3235. The real question is whether you want the traditional proportions of the Datejust 36 or the larger, more contemporary presence of the Datejust 41.

Rolex Datejust 41 vs Rolex Datejust 36: What's the Difference?

The biggest difference is, unsurprisingly, how much wrist the watch occupies. The Datejust 41 has a larger dial opening and stronger visual presence, while the 36 has a more compact and classic appearance. Importantly, the 41mm model is not mechanically more capable. Both sizes use Calibre 3235, have the same 100-metre water resistance and approximately 70-hour power reserve. Your wrist circumference is therefore only part of the equation. Wrist shape, personal style and the amount of visual presence you want from the watch matter just as much.

Rolex Datejust 41: Price in India and Details

The Rolex Datejust 41 measures 41mm across and, in the Oystersteel configuration used for this comparison, comes with a smooth bezel and Jubilee bracelet. Inside is Rolex's Calibre 3235, a self-winding mechanical movement with approximately 70 hours of power reserve and an accuracy specification of -2/+2 seconds per day after casing. It is water-resistant to 100 metres. The larger case gives the Datejust 41 a more noticeable presence. Its dial has more visual real estate, making it particularly appealing if you prefer a modern, substantial-looking dress watch.

Rolex Datejust 41 Price in India: ₹8,89,500 for Oystersteel, Reference 126300.

Rolex Datejust 36: Price and Details

The Datejust 36 measures, naturally, 36mm and offers the same fundamental movement and functionality. Like the 41mm version, it uses Calibre 3235, offers approximately 70 hours of power reserve and is water-resistant to 100 metres. The smaller case, however, gives it a more traditional proportion on the wrist, one that is closely tied to the Datejust's long history.

Rolex Datejust 36 Price in India: ₹7,93,000 for Oystersteel, Reference 126200.

Which Rolex Datejust Size Fits Your Wrist?

If you prefer a larger, contemporary watch, the Datejust 41 is likely to feel more natural. It works particularly well if you already wear watches around 40-42mm and want the Datejust to have a noticeable presence.

The Rolex Datejust 36, meanwhile, is the more traditionally proportioned choice. It can look particularly elegant on smaller wrists, but it is far from being exclusively a watch for smaller wrists. Its 36mm case has a balanced, understated character that works across a surprisingly wide range of wrist sizes.

The best way to choose between the two is to try both on. Five millimetres sounds insignificant on paper; on the wrist, it is anything but that.
