At Dubai Watch Week, Audemars Piguet presented a new way to interact with one of its most intricate timepieces. The intelligent setting box, designed for the 41 mm Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, combines Swiss watchmaking tradition with cutting-edge technology. It sets and winds the watch automatically, adjusting the date, month, moon phase, leap year, and time with flawless precision, offering collectors a glimpse of the future of horology.
Developed in collaboration with Dubai Future Labs, the box uses a built-in camera and AI to scan the dial, analyse which functions require adjustment, and move the crown through electromechanical components. The calibre 7138’s all-in-one crown allows the process to be completed safely and accurately. What once required patience and expertise can now be achieved within minutes!
Measuring 20 × 12 × 15 centimetres and weighing two kilograms, the setting box is both functional and visually striking. Its satin-finished surfaces, clean lines, and refined proportions echo the luxury and elegance of the Royal Oak collection.
Operating the intelligent setting box is just as refined. One simply has to place the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar inside, close the lid, and activate the companion app, allowing the built-in camera and AI to scan the dial, analyse the positions of the date, month, moon phase, leap year, and time, and move the crown with precise electromechanical control, completing all adjustments automatically and accurately.
Currently in prototype stage, Audemars Piguet has not announced its price yet. The intelligent setting box will remain a rare object, available through select boutiques and authorised retailers worldwide, complementing the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar.
