The Victoria and Albert Museum in London has welcomed a dazzling new treasure into its permanent collection. The Natural Pearl and Diamond ‘Feather’ Brooch by BHAGAT, one of India’s most celebrated contemporary jewellers, now graces the Jewellery Gallery, taking its place among more than 3000 extraordinary pieces that chart the journey of jewellery from ancient Europe to modern times.

The brooch draws inspiration from an Indo-European head ornament, designed as a stylised aigrette with three graduating feathers emanating from a diamond tulip bud. Each feather is composed of sinuous rows of diamonds and meticulously graded natural saltwater pearls, selected for their roundness, consistent colour, and fine lustre.

Handmade in platinum, the piece uses minimal metal to emphasise its lightness and fluidity, showcasing BHAGAT’s talent for balancing traditional Indian motifs with modern elegance.

A Jewel Among Icons

The V&A’s Jewellery Gallery is home to one of the world’s most comprehensive collections, featuring historic pieces by designers such as René Lalique and Cartier. By joining this collection, BHAGAT’s brooch now stands alongside centuries of renowned craftsmanship, highlighting the growing appreciation for contemporary Indian jewellery on the global stage.

Reflecting on the acquisition, BHAGAT notes: “The Victoria and Albert Museum is the world’s largest museum for decorative art & design. It showcases one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of jewellery in the world. As an Indian jeweller, to be recognised by such a globally significant cultural institution is an honour, and this acquisition affirms the artistic and cultural value of our creations, placing us within the living narrative of jewellery history.”

Craftsmanship That Commands Attention

Every detail of the Feather Brooch reflects BHAGAT’s commitment to perfection. The careful selection of pearls and the precise arrangement of diamonds create a sense of movement and light, making the piece appear almost weightless. The brooch demonstrates an artistry that honours heritage while speaking the subtle yet sophisticated language of modern luxury.

Founded in 1877, BHAGAT has consistently fused heritage and contemporary vision. The inclusion of the Feather Brooch in the V&A collection not only recognises its technical brilliance but also positions Indian craftsmanship among the finest examples of luxury design in the world.

Visitors to the V&A have the opportunity to discover the brooch in person, an exquisite piece that embodies a seamless harmony of heritage, craftsmanship, and modern elegance, leaving a truly timeless impression.
