Sunil Mital envisioned a tailoring brand synonymous with excellence in India. After earning a professional degree from the Tailoring and Design Centre, London, he founded The Darzi Group in 1981, as a modest tailoring house in Rajouri Garden, New Delhi. With innovation at its core, he pioneered computerized tailoring in India, redefining men’s bespoke fashion. At Darzi, tailoring is more than a profession; it is an art form.

Expanding into ethnic wear, he launched Studio Firang in 2001, bringing refined craftsmanship to modern Indian ensembles. In 2013, his son, Sushain Mital, joined the business with his global expertise, holding an Honours in Bespoke Tailoring and a Master’s in Pattern Design from the London College of Fashion, and training under Savile Row masters Richard James and Henry Poole & Co.

To cater to the demand for premium fabrics, Mirasu was introduced in 2016. Today, the Darzi Group, Studio Firang, and Mirasu embody heritage and innovation, making the brand India’s trusted destination for bespoke suits and ethnic wear. Today, with suits, couture, and premium alterations, The Darzi Group represents a seamless blend of tradition and innovation, ensuring every creation is designed exclusively for every client.

For our inaugural episode of Take 3 with RR, where we have quick, bite-sized conversations with leading voices across industries, giving readers a glimpse into their work and perspective, we chat with Sushain Mital to get his POV on bespoke tailoring.

Robb Report India: That one indulgent fabric for the discerning luxury client?

Sushain Mital: The ultimate indulgence for a luxury client is called Vicona. It's the rarest and the finest that man has ever made. It's the king of textiles.

RR: Details that make a bespoke piece stand out?

SM: Here are two things that make a bespoke suit stand out: first, over 100 hours of precision hand stitching; second, floating horsehair canvas that gives the garment more flexibility.

RR: What makes a garment truly luxurious?

SM: I think indulgence in something rare and unique, whether it's an experience or a bespoke suit, makes it luxurious.
