For Sangita Devi Kathiwada, luxury begins where the noise ends—in the satisfaction of being at home in one’s space, one’s choices, and one’s time. In a career spanning design, heritage, and cultural preservation, this ethos has guided her work at every turning point. In 1993, she founded Mélange in a century-old wine cellar in Mumbai, pioneering sustainable fashion as a value system long before it was a talking point. “Conscious luxury isn’t about doing less harm; it is about doing meaningful good,” she says, acknowledging that the things she holds dearest carry both thought and traceability.
Through the years, her work has extended far beyond the atelier to include restoration of heritage properties like the Kathiwada Raaj Mahal in Madhya Pradesh, the creation of contemporary cultural spaces such as the Kathiwada City House in Mumbai, and setting up of initiatives that connect urban creators with rural artisans. To support weavers and artisans, she founded Morarka Cultural Centre at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai. Whether curating fashion at the Royal Opera House in Mumbai or revitalising the narrative behind khadi, she has always strived to spotlight craft, community, and cultural memory that surpass trends. And now, she looks forward to building something similar with Robb Report India, “I hope Robb Report India becomes one of the few publications that chronicles luxury without stripping it of context,” she concludes.
Introducing the first advisory board for Robb Report India, the RR Circle brings together leading voices across luxury to guide, curate, and define the future of experiences in India.
