Apple has finally folded, quite literally. The company has unveiled the Apple iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, transforming the familiar smartphone into a device that opens into a 7.6-inch display while still fitting into a pocket when closed. And this is no modest experiment: iPhone Duo price in India starts at ₹299900, putting the first ever Apple foldable firmly in luxury-phone territory. It is the biggest physical rethink of the iPhone yet, and Apple is betting that the future of the smartphone is one you can open.

There are just two iPhone Duo colours - Star White and Night Sky.
Open, iPhone Duo reveals a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display, which Apple says is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Closed, a 5.4-inch outer display offers 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. Both displays support ProMotion, Always-On and up to 3,000 nits of outdoor brightness. A nano-texture finish on the inner screen is designed to reduce glare and make the crease less noticeable.
The hardware is built around a precision hinge and a Grade 5 titanium enclosure, with Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. Apple says the hinge uses more than 100 components to control the opening and closing of the phone.
The foldable design isn't just about having more screen. iPhone Duo gets a 48MP Fusion Main camera, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera and an optical-quality 2x Telephoto.
The folding form factor also creates camera tricks that aren't possible on a conventional iPhone. Duo Preview lets subjects see the live camera preview on the outer display, while Smart Take uses on-device AI to automatically capture a photo when everyone is ready.
There's also Duo FaceTime, which lets people join a video call using the outer display and camera.
Underneath the new design is Apple's A20 Pro, the same chip found in the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple says iPhone Duo delivers up to 35 percent better sustained performance than iPhone 17 Pro, with a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine.
The phone also gets a dual-battery architecture, delivering up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer display.
Apple has redesigned iOS 27 around the folding display. Open the phone and Split View lets two apps run side by side, while users can open two windows of the same app or keep an app and Siri AI visible together.
Apple Pencil support is also coming later this year, allowing users to take notes, sketch and mark up documents on either display.
iPhone Duo is not simply a bigger iPhone. It has attached a number of uses that are simply not possible on a conventional phone. And yes, the iPhone Duo display crease at the centre is not visible at all. Of course, the iPhone Duo price suggests, Apple wants you to pay for the extra real estate.
