The most important Apple event of the year has been scheduled for today, Wednesday September 9 2026. The spotlight is expected to fall squarely on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the flagship model, and iPhone 18 Pro. Another iPhone that may make its debut is the Apple foldable iPhone Ultra. The special 'Surprise and Shine' Apple Event has officially been confirmed for today and the time in India is 10:30 PM IST. Since Apple sets the smartphone agenda across the globe, there is a lot of interest in what may be rolled out today. Keeping that in mind, we list here the 5 best iPhone 18 Pro Max upgrades expected including camera, battery, chip, Dynamic Island, colours and more.
Some of the most interesting leaks and reports around the iPhone 18 Pro Max camera concerns the main 48-megapixel Fusion camera. Reports suggest Apple could introduce a variable-aperture lens, giving users greater control over how much light reaches the sensor and potentially improving depth-of-field effects. That means a huge improvement in low-light and night-time photography. There is still uncertainty over whether the feature will appear on just the iPhone 18 Pro Max or both Pro models. Notably, the Pro Max leads since it will likely have more space due to a larger battery. Camera Control button could also receive refinements.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max battery life could get a significant boost. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is rumoured to feature a substantially larger battery, with one report putting the capacity as high as 5,567mAh. Combined with a more efficient A20 Pro chip and reportedly more efficient LTPO+ display technology, that could translate into longer real-world endurance. The larger battery may also create more space on the Pro Max for other features to be accommodated.
At the heart of the iPhone 18 Pro Max models is expected to be the Apple A20 Pro chip, reportedly built using TSMC's first-generation 2nm process. The move could deliver improvements in both performance and power efficiency over the current generation. That means your Siri will be smarter and faster and the Apple AI component may finally start to work well. Gaming will get a major boost on iPhone 18 Pro Max too.
Apple is also expected to refine one of the most recognisable iPhone design elements. Reports point to a smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, potentially enabled by moving some Face ID components beneath the display. However, expectations of a completely disappearing Dynamic Island appear to have faded.
The iPhone 18 Pro colours may include a new Dark Cherry shade that will replace the striking Cosmic Orange one seen on iPhone 17 Pro Max last year. Other colours include Light Blue, and Dark Gray while Black may be given the short shrift.
