Apple has finally put a date on its next big event. The company will host its 'Surprise and Shine' event on September 9, 2026, setting the stage for what is expected to be the arrival of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple has not yet officially named either phone, but the timing leaves little mystery about what the spotlight is likely to fall on. For the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the interesting part is what may be happening beneath the familiar slab of glass. And here we take a look at the iPhone 18 Pro Max price, launch date, pre-orders, battery, camera and other specifications and features. Reports point to a higher Rs 159900 price, larger battery, a new A20 Pro chip, and potentially the biggest camera change in years. Here is what we know about the iPhone 18 Pro Max. In fact, with CEO Tim Cook set to retire, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may well be his swan song.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max price bump could be pretty steep. MacRumors, citing IDC, puts the expected starting price at $1399, which would make the biggest Apple iPhone up to US$200 more expensive in the US than the previous generation. MacRumors also points to forecasts of increases of as much as US$300, depending on the final configuration. That makes the US$1399 figure the one to keep an eye on. The final iPhone 18 Pro Max price in India is expected to be around Rs 159900 to Rs 169900 (256GB). Do note that Apple has not officially revealed any iPhone 18 Pro Max price tag yet.
September 9 2026 is confirmed for the Apple event. Current reporting expects the iPhone 18 Pro Max to be unveiled at the event, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and the first foldable iPhone from the Apple stable.
Pre-orders are expected shortly after the September 9 event. The timing is unusually complicated this year because the traditional Friday window falls on September 11. Current reporting suggests Apple could instead open iPhone 18 Pro Max pre-orders on Saturday, September 12, but that remains unconfirmed.
This could be one of the more meaningful upgrades. Some filings reportedly point to iPhone 18 Pro Max battery being as big as 5567mAh in the US version, compared with 5088mAh for the US iPhone 17 Pro Max. Chinese models are reportedly listed at 5391mAh because of the space required for a physical SIM tray.
If those figures hold, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could gain almost 10% more battery capacity a considerably more useful upgrade than another small bump on a specification sheet.
The camera may be where things get really interesting. Reports suggest the 48MP main camera could gain a variable aperture, allowing the lens to adjust how much light enters and potentially giving photographers greater control over exposure and depth of field. A newer report suggests the feature could be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The bigger story may not be one dramatic redesign, but a collection of useful changes: a 2nm A20-series chip, potentially longer battery life, and a more sophisticated camera system will make the iPhone 18 Pro Max really special.
Apple has already confirmed when we will get the answers. On September 9 2026, the rumours finally have to make room for the real thing.
