Luxury carmakers have long collaborated with watchmakers and fashion houses, but rarely has an Indian couturier left such a visible imprint on an automobile. With the MG M9 Couture Edition and MG Cyberster Couture Edition, MG SELECT has partnered with designer Gaurav Gupta to create two collector-focused electric vehicles that blur the lines between haute couture and high-performance mobility. Limited to just 50 units each, these bespoke EVs are aimed at buyers who see their cars as extensions of personal style rather than mere transportation.
Inspired by Gaurav Gupta's signature "Serpent Infinity" motif, both Couture Editions feature bespoke exterior graphics, hand-finished detailing and sculptural interior elements drawn directly from his couture collections. Instead of simply adding new paint colours or badges, MG has incorporated layered textures, embroidery-inspired finishes and artisanal craftsmanship to create cars that feel closer to wearable art than conventional special editions.
The collaboration debuted alongside Gupta's Light Song couture collection, extending the designer's creative universe beyond the runway. According to MG SELECT, the project reflects a broader vision of luxury where craftsmanship, design and technology co-exist in equal measure.
The Couture Editions are based on MG's flagship EVs. The MG Cyberster carries an ex-showroom price of ₹82.49 lakh, while the MG M9 is priced at ₹79.95 lakh following its latest revision. Although the Couture Editions retain the same electric powertrains as the standard models, their exclusivity comes from the design treatment and the fact that only 50 examples of each will be produced for India through the MG SELECT retail network.
The Cyberster remains one of India's quickest electric performance cars, producing 510 PS and 725 Nm, sprinting from 0–100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, while the M9 offers limousine-like comfort with a 90 kWh battery and a claimed driving range of 548 km.
Limited-edition cars are nothing new, but designer-led automobiles remain exceptionally rare in India. By combining Gaurav Gupta's sculptural design language with two of its flagship EVs, MG SELECT has created something that appeals as much to collectors as it does to luxury car buyers.
