Mercedes-Benz launches the new V-Class, and in Many Ways, it's a First

Featuring an extra long wheelbase and a 6-seater layout, the V-Class is less a van and more a ‘private suite’ as Mercedes-Benz describes it.

At more than five metres from bumper to bumper, it’s longer than the longest SUV that Mercedes-Benz currently sells in India. Say hello to the all-new Mercedes-Benz V-Class, featuring an extra-long wheelbase of 3430mm. Launched in India at an introductory Rs 1.4 crore ex-showroom, it will be available not only with a diesel engine but also, for the first time, with a petrol powertrain.

Being a Merc, it naturally has the best of virtually everything, but what really is the party piece of this incredibly unique vehicle, for there is really none other like it in the luxury automobile space, is the AIRMATIC air suspension. In fact, India is the first market globally to offer the AIRMATIC air suspension with both petrol and diesel variants.

The German automaker says that the new V-Class combines unparalleled space, comfort and avant-garde design, featuring an AMG Line exterior as standard, to offer an atmosphere of luxury, space and freedom while on the move. “The V-Class addresses a growing trend amongst India’s opulent customers and trend setters, who seek an oasis of personal space, tranquility and privacy, while travelling in the lap of luxury,” said Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India at the launch of the new vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz New V-Class Features

The sophisticated 6-seat layout features first-class luxury individual seats in the second row with 3-stage ventilation and massage, calf support, deployable cupholders, and wireless charging. The third row breaks new ground as the first vehicle in its segment to offer ventilated seats, complemented by 3-point seat belts, ISOFIX child seat anchorage, and USB charging ports. The front row offers electrically adjustable and ventilated seats with cushion length adjustment, establishing a luxurious command centre.

The cabin ambience is elevated by 64-colour ambient lighting, a Burmester® surround sound system with Dolby Atmos offering 15 loudspeakers delivering 640 W of output, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, heat-insulating glass with sun blind, and the ENERGIZING Comfort programme with up to ten harmoniously tuned wellness modes including nature soundscapes. Electric sliding doors on both sides can be operated via the key, exterior door handle, driver’s seat, or a button on the door panel, while the electrically operable split tailgate allows easy loading even in tight spaces.

Power comes from either a 1999cc petrol engine with 228bhp mated to a mild hybrid system that adds another 20bhp, taking peak output to 248bhp, or a 1951cc diesel engine with 233bhp on tap. Transmission is via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. It also offers best in class safety with seven airbags and a whole array of electronic and autonomous driving aids to prevent accidents as far as possible.

With the V-Class, Mercedes-Benz is also reaffirming its commitment to India since the vehicle will be locally produced.
