We’re Crushing on Maserati’s Latest Drop. Here’s Why

The Italian brand’s newest iteration is all luxury and performance rolled into one. Here’s our first look.

The Italians do things in style and speed! A case in point is Maserati’s new set of wheels, christened MCPura, that was unveiled at Goodwood Festival of Speed in United Kingdom earlier this week. Maserati fanboys who loved the 2020 MC20 Halo car will be thrilled to see this as a logical progression for the super sports car. And there’s something to be said about the iconic 3.0 litre V6 Nettuno engine that lies at the very heart of it all.

For starters, there’s a strong element of Italian craftsmanship in Maserati’s cars and the MCPura, which comes from the manufacturer’s historic plant in Modena that also produces this Nettuno engine. The design of this sports car comes from Maserati’s Centro Stile in Turin. For this particular model, performance was priority, and then all other aspects such as interiors were built around it.

On the outside, Maserati’s trident sees subtle placements, while the silhouette features the unmistakable shark nose design. There are also certain design changes to enhance its looks and aerodynamics. We love a good oversized spoiler (optional) and the robust front bumper, loosely inspired by the GT2 Stradale. We’re digging the 'butterfly doors’ on this car, which reveal the front wheel and show off the cockpit beautifully.

Robb Report India loves an indulgent cabin. For this, the Italians have infused it with their signature style—Alcantara dominates the cabin, giving it a luxe vibe, while the carbon fibre cockpit makes you feel like the king of the track. Alcantara used on the seats, panels, and steering wheel is lighter than traditional leather, thereby improving performance. Maserati gives a new steering wheel that has a flat top—and we’re not complainingwith an Alcantara detail on the crown. The start-stop button is on the steering wheel, along with the large paddle shifters that make the drive experience as experiential as can be.

There’s a 10.25 inch digital cluster as well as a 10.25 inch central touchscreen to operate the infotainment. It comes paired to a six-speaker, unbranded sound system.

Performance wise, the V6 Nettuno pumps out 630 CV of power and a whopping 720 Nm of torque. Drivers can choose between five drive modes using the selector: Wet, GT, Sport, Corsa and ESC Off. The car uses Grand Touring (GT) as a default mode on starting. It attains a top speed of 325 km/h and does a 0-100 km/h sprint in 2.9 seconds.

We were huge fans of the MC20 Halo car and we’re thrilled that MCPura is here—future-facing yet rooted in Maserati’s luxurious heritage, and designed assiduously for the performance-geek who takes luxury detailing seriously.

If you’re feeling particularly extravagant, Maserati’s Fuoriserie bespoke programme is always at-hand to make sure that insane levels of customisation can be done on your car. We can’t wait to test this Modena masterpiece in Mumbai soon. We will report to you on that!
