JLR has started local assembly of the Defender 110 in India, and the price drop is large. Assembly is via the completely knocked down (CKD) route, which cuts the ex-showroom price of the X-Dynamic HSE trim by up to Rs 34 lakh. The Defender was JLR India’s best-selling model in FY2026, so this is a change to the company’s most important product here.

Defender 110 Price, Before And After

The 3.0-litre diesel (D350) and 3.0-litre petrol (P400) are now Rs 1.18 crore, down from Rs 1.52 crore for the fully imported cars. That is a saving of Rs 34 lakh on each, or roughly 22 per cent. The 2.0-litre petrol (P300) drops from Rs 1.13 crore to Rs 99 lakh, a cut of Rs 14 lakh, or about 12 per cent.

The old figures were not base prices. JLR’s guide shows the imported D350 and P400 at Rs 1.35 crore ex-showroom, plus Rs 17 lakh of optional features, which gives the Rs 1.52 crore total. The imported P300 was Rs 1.07 crore plus Rs 6.5 lakh of options, or Rs 1.135 crore.

Local assembly makes those options standard: 29 on the D350 and P400, and 17 on the P300. Set against the old base prices, the new D350 and P400 are Rs 17 lakh cheaper, and the P300 is Rs 8 lakh cheaper, with the extra equipment included.

What You Now Get As Standard

Across all three engines, the newly standard items include electronic air suspension, Adaptive Dynamics, Terrain Response 2, adaptive off-road cruise control, third-row seats, the ClearSight interior rear-view mirror, a front console refrigerator, three-zone climate control, Cabin Air Purification Plus, Wade Sensing and headlight power wash.

The D350 and P400 get more: configurable Terrain Response, an electronic active differential with torque vectoring by braking, 20-inch diamond-turned wheels, 14-way heated and cooled memory front seats, a head-up display, the Meridian surround sound system and Windsor leather with Kvadrat upholstery.

Defender Engines And Capability

The D350 has a 2,997 cc diesel engine producing 258 kW of power and 700 Nm of torque, taking the Defender 110 from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. The P400, also with a 2,997 cc engine but running on petrol, produces 294 kW and 550 Nm of torque, completing the same sprint in 6.1 seconds. The smaller 1,997 cc petrol engine in the P300 delivers 221 kW and 400 Nm of torque, with a 0-100 km/h time of 7.4 seconds.

All three use an 8-speed automatic. In off-road mode, the air suspension lifts the car by up to 75 mm to give 293 mm of ground clearance, and the wading depth is up to 900 mm. Seating is 5+2, with loadspace ranging from 231 to 2,233 litres depending on the configuration.

Colours And Interiors

The D350 and P400 come in Fuji White, Santorini Black, Borasco Grey, Tasman Blue, Carpathian Grey and Woolstone Green. The P300 gets Fuji White, Santorini Black, Gondwana Stone and Woolstone Green. Interiors are Ebony or Caraway/Ebony.

What It Means For Indian Buyers

The most obvious gain is value. A buyer who once paid Rs 1.52 crore for a well-equipped diesel or petrol Defender 110 can now get the same car for Rs 1.18 crore. The P300 now sits below the Rs 1 crore mark. Buying also gets simpler, because most of the options that used to be extras are now part of the car.

The move also fits a wider pattern. Select versions of the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Velar, Evoque and Discovery Sport are already assembled in India. The Defender, Range Rover and Sport together made up more than 80 per cent of JLR India’s sales last fiscal year, so localising the Defender affects a large share of the company’s business.

One caution applies. JLR’s guide says the specification, engines and colours are based on Indian local manufacturing, and the company reserves the right to change them without notice. Buyers should confirm the final specification and price with their retailer.
