BMW India has opened bookings for the first-ever BMW i5 Long Wheelbase (LWB), with the electric sedan set to be locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai. It will become the brand’s second locally produced electric model in India and its first locally produced electric sedan. Bookings are open through BMW’s authorised dealer network, while customers can also register their interest on BMW India’s website.
The i5 LWB is the first-ever long-wheelbase version of the electric sedan and is positioned as the largest and longest sedan in its segment. Measuring 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width and 1,520 mm in height, it has a 3,105 mm wheelbase, creating additional space for rear passengers. BMW describes the cabin as the most spacious in its segment, with a focus on rear-seat comfort.
The electric sedan is powered by an electric motor producing 268 hp, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. An 81.6 kWh high-voltage battery provides a claimed range of up to 669 km (MIDC) on a single charge. For Indian road conditions, the i5 LWB also gets adaptive rear-axle air suspension and enhanced ground clearance, aimed at improving ride comfort and composure across different terrains.
The emphasis on the rear cabin continues with the BMW i5 LWB First Edition, which will be offered to only 99 customers at launch. The limited-run model adds a dedicated rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and tablet holder. Its cabin features BMW Individual Silver Bronze accents, Fineline open-pored fine-wood trim and Silver Bronze inlays, while a ‘FIRST EDITION’ laser engraving on the dashboard trim marks the special edition.
The First Edition is offered with a Carbon Black Metallic exterior paint finish and Titanium Bronze exterior accents. BMW says the limited model marks the arrival of the first-ever i5 LWB and represents a milestone in its electrification journey in India.
The BMW i5 LWB can be booked through BMW India’s authorised dealer network, with customers also able to register their interest online.
