We love a good limited edition drop and when it looks like BMW’s Concept Speedtop, we’re hooked!

Robb Report India got up close and personal with BMW’s latest concept car, a three-door reinterpretation of the Munich carmaker’s iconic Touring concept. The new BMW Concept Speedtop, which took automobile enthusiasts by storm earlier this year, was announced at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como. Now, we get first access to the Concept Speedtop in the wings of Japan Mobility 2025, at a VIP preview. This three-door concept is a svelte reinterpretation of the BMW Touring. With only 70 pieces, this is a highly-coveted novelty among collectors.

Decidedly easy on the eyes, the Concept Speedtop, seen here in a Floating Sunstone Maroon colour, has a gorgeous silhouette, that is sculpted and streamlined with a central spine that runs over the bonnet to the rear. As futuristic as it looks, the car strongly retains BMW’s visual cues, with illuminated horizontal kidney grilles that form a sharp front profile, complimented by a strong shoulder line. In a first, the car sits beautifully atop bi-coloured 14-spoke wheels.

There's another flurry of action near the boot of the car, where photographers and content creators have pulled out their devices to shoot. Upon opening the boot, a beautifully finished compartment, replete with leather brogue finish, comes to view. It is smartly designed to reveal another compartment deeper inside for larger luggage, a feat achieved by the carmaker’s Manufactory design workshop in Dingolfing, Germany.

I also discover a set of custom-made luggage that perfectly matches the compartment and the car. Turns out, BMW has partnered with Italian luxury leather Maison, Schedoni, to commission custom luggage that fits into the Concept Speedtop, perfectly ensconced behind the seats. A concept car with matching luggage—full marks from me!

The leather leitmotif continues inside the cabin too, with the elegant broguing technique visible on the trims and panels. It is tastefully executed in two colour tones, contrasted with Moonstone White seats, reflecting a visible design shift in BMWs cabins of the future—one that leans towards a more minimalistic, understated style. The headliner is also finished entirely in leather.

Powered by the finesse of its V8 engine, one can only imagine what driving the Concept Speedtop would feel like as one meanders along the curvy roads of Lake Como, the hairpin bends of Monaco, or the leafy avenues of Lutyens' Delhi. All this, while we anxiously wait for BMW to release the concept car's tech specs soon.
