Keeping to the trend of unveiling products without a price, Bentley unveiled two stunning cars recently – the Continental GT S and the Continental GT Convertible S. Now, this was in Europe, and not too long back, we would have wondered if these beautiful cars would ever touch an Indian road. Not anymore, considering how wonderfully the luxury and ultra luxury vehicle market has expanded in this country in the recent past, we can more or less rest assured that these will certainly find their way to a few garages in India. And, we would hazard an educated guess that when they do come to India, they are likely to sport stickers around Rs 6 to 6.5 crore. So, what do you get for that kind of money?

Speed and Power

The GT S in its coupé form and the GT Convertible S are the most powerful Bentley Continentals ever made. Sitting under the graceful bonnet is a 4-litre crossplane V8 engine. Working in tandem with electric motors, the Continental GT S’ hybrid powertrain has an overall output of 680HP and a staggering 930Nm of peak torque. The result is an eyeball tearing 0-100kmph time of 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 306kmph. Accompanied by an exciting aural experience from the custom Sports exhaust. Here’s the cherry on top, though: in pure electric mode, this thing can travel up to 80km.

A Chassis to Match

That much power and torque, 130 more horses and 160Nm of extra torque than before, would need a chassis that is capable of handling that output. Behold, the Bentley Performance Active Chassis. This cutting-edge chassis tech made its debut a few months ago with the Bentley Supersports and ensures that all that power and torque do not overwhelm the Continental GT S or the GT Convertible S, and instead makes for a thrilling driving experience.

The fourth-generation Continental GT S models feature Active All Wheel Drive, twin valve dampers, torque vectoring (front to rear and across the axles), the 48V Bentley Dynamic Ride active anti-roll system, a new generation of ESC control software, and for the first time on a Continental GT S, an electronic limited-slip differential and all-wheel steering. This means drivers can control the cornering attitude of the car much better than before. For the truly adventurous, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) can be turned off completely.

A First-Class Cabin

A two-colour upholstery split is unique to these models and, together with the fluted seat design, it creates a purposeful, performance-focused driving environment. Tactile Dinamica technical fabric is used on key touch points, including the steering wheel, gear lever, seats, and door inserts. The standard Piano black veneer echoes the design theme of the exterior’s Blackline specification, although high-gloss carbon fibre and other finishes are offered as an option. Other options include full leather upholstery and dark tint chrome specification for all interior metal brightwork.

The Blackline Specification adds to the look of the dark front lower spoiler, with gloss black matrix grilles, whilst black Bentley wings and BENTLEY lettering set the mood, giving these models a purposeful stance. In addition, there are Beluga black mirror caps, sill extensions, and a rear diffuser. Dark tint, full LED matrix headlamps featuring Bentley’s Precision design detail are a feature shared only with the GT Speed. At the rear, the S specification includes dark tint taillamps and tailpipe finishers for the sports exhaust. While the 22” ten swept-spoke alloy wheel comes as standard in silver, Continental GT S models are available with a choice of wheel options, including a ten swept-spoke alloy wheel in gloss black with bright machined facing surfaces, and a full gloss black version.

What's Next?

Well, we wait for the next announcement from Bentley. This time, hopefully, with an India price and a launch date to boot.
