One could always walk to the nearest store and grab one's comfort chocolate off the confectionary aisle of a convenience store. However, it's another thing when the chocolates you're in receipt of are priced like fine jewellery and, sometimes, come along with a Guinness World Record tag. That makes it an experience far less forgettable than a convenience store run. Here are the five chocolates that will always make you think fondly of the time you get to try them.

1. Frrrozen Haute Chocolate

Created in an alliance between Serendipity 3 and jeweller Euphoria New York, Frrrozen Haute Chocolate is found in a restaurant. It has remained the Guinness World Record holder for the most expensive dessert on the planet. The dessert itself is a concoction of 14 rare cocoas with edible 24-karat gold, presented in a fine goblet rimmed with gold and diamonds and eaten — not with a silver but — with a golden spoon, which eventually the diner gets to take home. Although not a packaged retail product, the dining experience set the template for the theatrics of chocolate and has held a record in that hall of fame since 2007.

Price: Approx. $25,000 (Rs. 21 lakh).

2. Golden Speckled Egg

The Golden Speckled Egg looks like something out of the Harry Potter universe. For years, it been the holder of Guinness World Record for the most expensive non-jewelled chocolate egg ever sold at auction. Whipped up in 2012 by British chocolatier William Curley and a team of six others, it stands over a metre tall and weighing roughly 50kg. The egg's shell was made out of Italian chocolate house Amedei's couverture, finished in edible gold leaf, and decorated with 12 smaller eggs, 20 mini bars and five white chocolate flowers — a three-day build. It sold at a charity auction at London's Royal Courts of Justice to technology investor Cyrus Vandrevala, with proceeds going to the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt.

Price: £7,000 (Rs. 9.3 lakh).

3. Fabelle Trinity – Truffles Extraordinaire

India's entry, and the country's strongest genuine claim to global chocolate luxury. Created by ITC's Fabelle in collaboration with Michelin-starred French chef Philippe Conticini, Trinity is a limited-edition box of 15 truffles, each 15g, structured around a "cycle of life" concept — a coconut and Tahitian vanilla "Creator" truffle in Belgian white chocolate, a Ghana dark chocolate and Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee "Nurturer," and a Grand Cru dark chocolate "Destroyer." Hand-packed into a wooden box, it holds its own Guinness World Record — for the most expensive box of chocolates, priced at Rs.1 lakh per made-to-order box. By kilo, it sits below Attimo's record, but it remains the single costliest chocolate manufactured and sold anywhere in India, and one of the few Guinness-recognised chocolate records held outside Europe.

Price: Approx. Rs. 4.3 lakh per kg (£3,850/kg).

4. Attimo Chocolate's "La Chuorsa"

If there is one genuine outlier on the list, it’s this: the current Guinness World Record holder for the most expensive chocolate by weight with no gold, jewels or gimmicks involved. An 80g bar costs roughly CHF 640. Made in Zurich, it combines saffron grown in the Swiss village of Mund, crystallised orange crisps and rare 68 per cent Chuao cacao sourced from Venezuela. The record was verified in 2019 purely on ingredient rarity and craftsmanship, making La Chuorsa the benchmark for what chocolate alone — stripped of embellishment — can legitimately cost.

Price: Approx. £6,268.50 per kg (Rs. 6.5 lakh/kg).

5. To'ak's Master Series

To'ak treats chocolate less like confectionery and more like a vintage spirit. Made from Ecuador's rare Nacional cacao — a variety once nearly lost to history — the beans are hand-selected across six rounds of sorting and the finished chocolate is aged in spirit barrels, much like cognac or whisky, to develop deeper, more complex flavour. Editions are labelled by harvest year and terroir, and the brand's strict philosophy bans modern flavourings and emulsifiers outright. Unlike the gold-leaf and jewel-encrusted entries elsewhere on this list, To'ak's price is built entirely on process, rarity and patience — making it arguably the most "honestly" expensive chocolate in the world.

Price: Up to £400 for a 50g bar (approx. Rs. 8,000/kg equivalent).
