As the Maldives matures as a holiday destination, so do the resorts that anchor it. The island nation is pivoting from being a novelty vacation spot to paving the way for longer stays. St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, located on a previously uninhabited natural island in Dhaalu Atoll, is reflective of this evolution.
Guests arrive at the nine-hectare island, ringed by coral sand and surrounded by a house reef, by a seaplane from Malé. From the jetty, the paths lead through dense greenery to the resort’s marineand island-inspired structures. For instance, The Whale Bar, perched over water, takes its silhouette from a whale shark. The Iridium Spa, on the other hand, sits at the lagoon’s edge in a shell-shaped structure.

The resort has 77 villas, split between land and sea. Beach villas sit mere steps away from the shoreline, and house private pools and shaded terraces. Overwater villas extend above the lagoon, with large decks and ladders leading straight into the water. Inside, one finds neutral tones, clean lines, and layouts that prioritise space and privacy.
With its latest upgrade, the two-bedroom Family Villa is now 400 square metres, with enough space for an indoor living area and a larger infinity pool than before. The beachfront, too, is also now bigger.
For larger groups, the resort’s signature estates function more like private residences. The John Jacob Astor Estate, among the largest overwater villas in the Maldives, includes multiple bedrooms, a gym, spa rooms, and a full kitchen. On land, the Caroline Astor Estate is designed for extended family stays or private gatherings.
Growing Connections

The main pool and beach act as social anchors, supported by attentive service throughout the day. The fitness centre has been fully upgraded with Technogym equipment, including the Technogym Checkup system for personalised training insights. A new padel court now sits alongside the tennis courts.
Wanting to create a connection to the island, sustainability underpins operations. The resort holds a Green Globe certification, operates its own desalination system for drinking water, and has also partnered with Reefscapers for coral restoration projects.
