In the automotive realm, only a few names resonate with commanding presence, unmatched power, and sheer prestige. Maybach undoubtedly is one of them. For nearly a century, the marque’s story has been intertwined with the V12 engine- an icon of refinement and excess that has powered everything from the grand Maybach Zeppelin of the 1930s to the brand’s most exclusive modern-day flagships.

To honour this legacy, Mercedes has unveiled the V12 Edition, an exclusive creation that pays tribute to their long association with V12 engines. Limited to just 50 units worldwide, this S‑Class signature release is based on the S680 and crafted with meticulous details. The model was unveiled to VIP customers and press recently at the historic Fort Michelangelo in Civitavecchia, Italy, a setting befitting the car’s elegance and heritage.

Its exterior makes an immediate statement: a striking dual-tone finish of olive green and black, accentuated by delicate silver pinstripes. Exclusive forged wheels in olive green carry the palette through, while the eye is drawn inevitably to the edition’s most distinctive feature, 24-carat gold detailing on the badges, a literal gilding of the Maybach heritage.  It offers exclusive design through the MANUFAKTUR program, reflecting a tradition of combining advanced technology and style.

Mercedes-Maybach V12 Performance: Power Wrapped in Elegance

Beneath this refined skin lies a powerhouse that refuses to let performance take a back seat to opulence and comfort. At its core is Mercedes’ 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which produces 612 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. Paired with a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission and 4MATIC all-wheel drive, the result is an effortless surge of power that moves this 2.3-tonne beast from 0–100 km/h in a mere 4.5 seconds. An electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h underscores the balance between refinement and restraint. It may not shout its performance credentials like a sports car, but the edition whispers them with confidence.

Mercedes-Maybach V12 Interiors: A Sanctuary of Handcrafted Opulence

Step inside and the indulgence only deepens. The cabin is a masterclass in handcrafted luxury, where saddle brown Nappa leather seats and a diamond-quilted headliner form the canvas for edition-specific detailing. A burr walnut wood steering wheel, intricate embroidery, and even a 24-carat gold inlay in the centre console elevate the interior into art. Ownership extends beyond the car itself, with accessories such as silver-plated champagne flutes and a bespoke key box, affirming that this is a lifestyle as much as it is a vehicle.

For Mercedes-Maybach, this edition is more than indulgence; it is homage. The V12’s legacy stretches back to the Maybach Zeppelin of the early 1930s; a machine whose 200-horsepower output and 106 mph top speed set the benchmark for luxury travel of its era. The Zeppelin was the chosen chariot of royalty, celebrities, and industrialists. Today, the V12 Edition draws a direct line to that heritage, offering modern-day collectors a piece of history at a time when such powerful engines are all but extinct.

For the fortunate 50 who will own it, this is more than a purchase. It is an investment in heritage, a bridge between past grandeur and the electrified future that awaits.
