Singapore Airlines unveils its next-generation First Class cabin featuring the largest double bed in the sky, curved sliding doors for enhanced privacy, and luxurious amenities like companion dining, smart cabin controls, and exclusive storage options. Designed for comfort and elegance, the new cabin promises a private sanctuary for couples and luxury travelers, entering service in 2027.
After almost a decade, Singapore Airlines launches its next-generation long haul cabin products that include a luxurious private sanctuary in First Class with curved sliding doors for enhanced space and privacy, companion dining, and centre seats that can transform into a two-seater sofa, also billed to be the largest double bed available in the sky among commercial airlines measuring 80 inches in length and 60 inches in combined width. Designed by PriestmanGoode, the curved sliding doors (unlike the more conventional boxy designs) with every seat, and a fully retractable privacy divider between the centre seats that can recline into a queen sized bed, are perfect for couples travelling, and those seeking togetherness.
At the grand unveiling of the prototype of the new product at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre, I plonk into the First Class seat decked in Poltrona Frau leather upholstery, the cabin’s soft wall panels featuring SIA’s signature batik motif, along with ambient light that uplifts the mood. The seats come with a range of adjustment options, including adjustable side wings, upper and lower lumbar support, armrests, leg rest and an ottoman. Plus the smart cabin controls, integrated with myKrisWorld remember your preferred seat positions and lighting settings for future journeys.
Each First Class seat also has an option that allows face-to-face companion dining. So if you’re travelling with a partner, it’s a fine way to enjoy a meal together in the sky! Dedicated storage, including a personal wardrobe, a leather lined vanity drawer, and a cabin baggage compartment beneath the ottoman ensures that the space isn’t cluttered. And if you want to stay connected, then the airlines new Starlink connectivity will enable you to not only work on the go, but also live stream on personal devices.
Speaking about the major differentiator of SIA’s new First Class cabin, Yeoh Phee Teik, senior vice president, customer experience, Singapore Airlines, tells Robb Report India, “In one word, it would be a [private] sanctuary. First, the divider retracts vertically instead from ground-up, turning almost like a living room for couples. Second, the curves is a unique feature. They bring about a sense of space and unique to SIA. It’s an innovative design to give [back] the space to the customer.” He also mentions about the demand for privacy and comfort among luxury flyers, which the new product addresses quite aptly, as I experience at the unveiling.
With the intent to make the customer journey more seamless, the launch of the new SIA travel experience also includes first-class concierge service at Changi, an expanded F&B offering with more than 100 new items added to its menu. While First Class guests continue to enjoy an iconic champagne selection including the Louis Roederer Cristal and the Krug Grande Cuvee, the new wine labels being added include French wines like the Château Ducru-Beaucaillou and Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande from Bordeaux and Burgundy producers Domaine William Fevre and Château de Meursault. The new spirits option will also have the SIA-exclusive single malt whiskey from Japan’s Komoro Distillery. The SIA Chef’s Selection menu will have fresh dishes like the poached Maine lobster with Champagne sauce, sous vide chicken thigh roulade with chicken and pearl barley broths, a tandoor-roasted paneer with velvet gravy, as well as the Fusion Harmony Rojak- a popular Singaporean salad, among others.
Even the amenity kits are rejigged with suites and First Class guests being pampered with SISLEY kits featuring the anti-aging Sisleya and Sisleyum ranges and pure cotton sleeper suits.
Chief commercial operator of SIA, Lee Lik Hsin states, “This is our biggest investment [to date] to improve the SIA experience.” More than USD 2 billion has been invested towards building the airline’s new First Class, Business Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class seats for long-haul aircraft. The Business Class product, now with each seat having sliding doors, has been designed by BMW Group company Designworks, inspired by automotive design to create a space that “feels elevated and timeless,” shares Julia de Bono, CEO, Designworks.
The new cabin products are scheduled to enter the market in the second half of 2027 on SIA’s retrofitted Airbus A350-900 and the new Boeing 777-9 aircraft. However, the ‘soft products’ including the new F&B menu and the amenity kits, will be available from November 11th onwards, according to Phee Teik.
