Few watches have the cultural pull of the Rolex Submariner. It is instantly recognisable, has spent decades on the wrists of everyone from divers to movie stars, and somehow manages to look right with almost anything. But the appeal of a great dive watch goes well beyond Rolex. If you like the Submariner's mix of rugged engineering, clean design and unmistakable wrist presence, there is a whole world of luxury watches waiting beyond it. From the pioneering Blancpain Fifty Fathoms to the unmistakable Italian flair of the Panerai Submersible, the Bond-approved Omega Seamaster, the sporty Breitling Superocean and the vintage-leaning Tudor Black Bay 58, these are five luxury watches worth knowing if the Rolex Submariner is already on your wishlist.

5 Rolex Submariner-Type Watches To Know: Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro, And More

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique — Ref. 5015 1130 52A

Before the Submariner became the celebrity of the dive-watch world, Blancpain's Fifty Fathoms was already making a name for itself. The current Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique keeps that heritage intact with a 45mm steel case, 300-metre water resistance and the automatic Calibre 1315, which offers an impressive 120-hour power reserve. It is bigger, bolder and considerably less ubiquitous than a Submariner exactly the point if you want your dive watch to feel a little more unexpected.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique is priced at ₹16,00,000 in India (Ref. 5015 1130 52A).

Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro — Ref. PAM01229

If 40-odd millimetres feels conservative, Panerai has an answer. The Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro is a substantial 44mm dive watch with Panerai's unmistakable cushion-shaped case, black dial, rotating bezel and 300-metre water resistance. Inside is the automatic P.900 movement with a three-day power reserve. This is the choice for someone who likes the practicality of a Submariner but wants considerably more wrist presence.

Panerai Submersible QuarantaQuattro is priced at ₹9,97,300 in India (Ref. PAM01229 ).

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M — Ref. 210.30.42.20.03.001

Then there is the watch that has arguably spent the most time competing with the Submariner for the spotlight. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M brings a 42mm steel case, ceramic bezel, its famous wave-pattern dial and 300-metre water resistance. The Master Chronometer Calibre 8800 offers a 55-hour power reserve. It also has the James Bond connection, which certainly doesn't hurt its appeal.

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M is priced at ₹6,90,300 in India (Ref. 210.30.42.20.03.001).

Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 — Ref. A17375E71C1S1

Breitling's Superocean Automatic 42 is the sportier option here. The 42mm stainless-steel model has 300-metre water resistance and a clean, highly legible dial designed with underwater use in mind. It has the same essential ingredients as the Submariner, but with a more relaxed, contemporary personality.

Breitling Superocean Automatic 42 is priced at ₹5,09,250 in India (Ref. A17375E71C1S1).

Tudor Black Bay 58 — Ref. M79030N-0001

For something closer to the Submariner's compact proportions, Tudor's Black Bay 58 is difficult to ignore. Its 39mm steel case, black bezel and vintage-inspired details give it plenty of old-school charm, while the manufacture Calibre MT5402 delivers around 70 hours of power reserve and 200 metres of water resistance. It is smaller, less flashy and considerably more approachable than the Rolex, but that understated quality is precisely why the Black Bay 58 has become such a favourite.

Tudor Black Bay 58 is priced at ₹4,14,800 in India (Ref. M79030N-0001).

The Submariner remains the obvious benchmark, but it doesn't have to be the end of the conversation. Blancpain brings history, Panerai brings personality, Omega brings technical sophistication, Breitling brings sportiness, and Tudor keeps things beautifully restrained. If you like what the Submariner does but want something with a little more character, or simply something you won't see on every other wrist, these five are excellent places to start.
