Luxury interiors and high-end audio have existed in a strange state of intransigence for decades. You could’ve spent a fortune on curating the artwork and the pieces of art that could be called sofas, meticulously planned lighting for every mood, and the perfect rug to rest your rich feet on, but the audio? It’s almost always either an eyesore or an afterthought. The Swedes from Transparent would argue that we’ve accepted this state for far too long, and their solution is a range of wireless speaker systems.
Now available in India exclusively through Mumbai-based Audio Houzz, the Stockholm brand approaches audio from an entirely different perspective. Instead of treating speakers as appliances that need to be hidden away, Transparent treats them as design objects that deserve to be seen and are inspired by some of the most iconic objects and designers of our times. The result is a range of products that sit somewhere between high-fidelity audio equipment and contemporary art.
Built around a frame of tempered glass and aluminium, the flagship Transparent Speaker is perhaps the purest expression of that philosophy. It houses a Class D amplifier, twin tweeters, and a woofer inside an enclosure that appears to almost disappear into its surroundings. Rather than dominating a room, it allows the space behind it to remain visible, creating an effect that feels surprisingly light and architectural.
But Transparent’s ambitions extend well beyond the glass speakers. The Acoustic Sculpture emulates the organic form of the human ear, the Light Speaker is a portable glass lantern that combines sound and illumination in a genuinely unique way. A warm LED filament responds to the rhythm of the music, creating an object that feels part lighting fixture, part speaker, and part conversation starter. As an outlier to the brand’s namesake, the Brutalist Speaker may not have any see-through superpowers, but it does disarm you with its unique geometric aesthetic that feels inspired by architecture rather than consumer electronics.
Transparent’s products are designed around modularity and can be upgraded over time as new wireless standards are established or when Transparent develops a better-sounding amp/Wi-Fi module. Contrary to its name, once one of its products enters a room, it becomes almost impossible not to notice. They challenge a long-held assumption that great audio has to look bulky, anonymous, or purely functional. We get an exclusive look at the brand’s line-up before they hit Indian store shelves.
