The luxury electric SUV segment is getting increasingly interesting in India, and two names bring very different interpretations to the category: the 2026 Porsche Cayenne Electric and the BMW iX xDrive50. While the Porsche takes the performance-first Cayenne formula into the electric era, the BMW iX leans into futuristic design, a spacious cabin and long-distance usability. Both are all-wheel-drive electric SUVs, but their power outputs, acceleration, range, charging capabilities and pricing reveal two distinct approaches to luxury EVs.
The 2026 Porsche Cayenne Electric is the standard electric version of Porsche's new-generation Cayenne EV family. It uses an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain and produces up to 442 PS with Launch Control, with 0–100kph taking 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 230kph. Range is another major part of the Cayenne Electric's appeal. Porsche quotes a WLTP range of 576–643km, depending on configuration. The SUV can also support rapid DC charging, with Porsche claiming a 10–80 percent charge in as little as 16 minutes under optimal conditions using a sufficiently powerful charging station. The Cayenne Electric also retains the practical character expected of a Cayenne. Porsche lists up to 781 litres of luggage capacity in its Indian model comparison, while the optional Off-Road Package allows a towing capacity of up to 3,500kg.

The BMW iX xDrive50 has been BMW's flagship electric SUV in India and takes a more technology-led approach. Its dual electric motors produce 523hp and 765Nm, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0–100kph in 4.6 seconds. BMW's official India specification sheet lists a 111.5kWh gross battery capacity and a WLTP range of 575–635km.
Inside, the BMW iX xDrive50 takes a distinctly minimalist approach, with BMW's 12.3-inch digital instrument display and 14.9-inch curved display, BMW Operating System 8.5, augmented-reality navigation, a head-up display and gesture control. The specification sheet also lists a Harman Kardon surround-sound system with 18 speakers and 655 watts.
BMW iX xDrive50 is priced at ₹1,39,50,000 in India.
On paper, the BMW has the acceleration advantage, taking 4.6 seconds to reach 100kph compared with the Porsche's 4.8 seconds. The Cayenne Electric, however, has a higher quoted top speed of 230kph, compared with the iX xDrive50's 200kph. Their claimed ranges are remarkably close, with Porsche quoting up to 643km depending on configuration and BMW quoting up to 635km.
The biggest technical difference appears when charging. Porsche's claimed 16-minute 10–80 percent charging time under optimal conditions gives the Cayenne Electric a strong fast-charging headline, while the BMW iX xDrive50 is designed around long-distance comfort and its substantial 111.5kWh battery.
