Mercedes-Benz has launched the Mercedes-Maybach S580e in India at Rs 3.35 crore (ex-showroom), marking the arrival of the brand's plug-in hybrid Maybach in the country. With an initial allocation limited to just 30 units, this ultra-luxury sedan targets buyers who want chauffeur-driven comfort along with the benefits of electrification. Power comes from a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 577 bhp and 750 Nm. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds while offering a claimed electric-only range of 98 km. Inside, the S580e retains the lavish four-seat Maybach experience, with executive rear seats, premium materials and advanced technology.

Design And Exteriors

It is the first plug-in hybrid Maybach launched in India.

The S580e carries the unmistakable Maybach identity, starting with a MANUFAKTUR exclusive two-tone paint scheme and an illuminated grille topped with Maybach lettering. The three-pointed star remains a bonnet ornament as Double-star headlamps with rose gold accents come with the Digital Light intelligent lighting system and adaptive high beam assist.

In profile, the car is 180 mm longer than the standard long-wheelbase S-Class and rides on 20-inch forged Maybach wheels wrapped in 255/40 section tyres, with self-centring logos. Illuminated door sills, door-open logo projection and illuminated Maybach badges on the D-pillars add to the theatre. Being a plug-in hybrid, it gets a fuel flap on one side and a charging port on the other, while signature three-star tail lamps and twin exhausts complete the rear.

Cabin And Interiors

The four-seat interior features executive rear seats, calf massage, folding tables and a 31-speaker Burmester 4D sound system.

Inside, the cabin has a Maybach-exclusive Nappa leather in a crystal white and silver-grey pearl scheme, paired with piano lacquer trim, a wood-and-leather multifunction steering wheel and Maybach-detailed pedals. The exclusive four-seat layout includes executive rear seats with calf massage, dual rear entertainment screens, a full-length business console, folding tables, wireless charging, automatic comfort doors and the rear comfort package. The audio comes from a 1,610-watt Burmester 4D surround system with 31 speakers, making it a great fit.

Running on MB.OS, the front cabin features a 3D driver display with augmented reality, a head-up display with turn-by-turn navigation and a passenger screen with a privacy function. Here, safety is covered by Level 2 ADAS and the PRE-SAFE system with 15 airbags.

Powertrain, Performance And Range

The hybrid powertrain produces 577 bhp and 750 Nm of combined torque.

The S580e pairs a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine, producing 437 bhp and 560 Nm and mated to a 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox, with an electric motor making 158 bhp and 480 Nm. Together they deliver a combined 577 bhp and 750 Nm, sent to all four wheels through the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 4.8 seconds, and top speed can go upto 250 km/h.

Ride quality is handled by cloud-connected AIRMATIC air suspension, while rear-axle steering of up to 10 degrees improves low-speed manoeuvrability, which is useful for a car of this length.

But what is most importanat to note is the plug-in hybrid setup is the key differentiator here. Mercedes claims a WLTP-certified pure electric range of 98 km, with electric-only speeds up to 140 km/h, enough to cover most urban commutes without using petrol. The car supports 11 kW AC charging through its onboard charger and 60 kW DC fast charging, which can take the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes.

Only 30 units have been allocated for the initial Indian launch.

With its blend of handcrafted luxury, hybrid efficiency and rarity, the Mercedes-Maybach S580e positions itself as a compelling alternative for ultra-luxury buyers in India who want a cleaner and more efficient way to be driven.
