Mercedes Luxury Unimog Shows That Off-Roading Can Be Ultra-Premium

The iconic Unimog gets a premium twist with comfort, capability, and luxury detailing.

The new luxury Unimog is Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks’ take on a classic off-roader with a modern, high-end touch. Built to mark the Unimog’s 80th anniversary, the vehicle pairs its legendary off-road capability with a refined interior and exterior design. The project, developed in collaboration with Hellgeth Engineering, showcases how a rugged workhorse can double as a premium mobility machine.

At its core, the luxury Unimog is based on the U 4023 platform, retaining features like portal axles, a flexible frame, selectable all-wheel drive, and differential locks on both axles. These features ensure it can still tackle the harshest terrain while supporting heavy loads and expedition gear.

Key Features and Performance

Under the hood, the standard four-cylinder engine is replaced with a six-cylinder OM 936 turbodiesel.

Under the hood, the standard four-cylinder engine is replaced with a six-cylinder OM 936 turbodiesel producing roughly 300 horsepower and high torque. A tuned transmission smooths out power delivery for better on-road comfort without compromising off-road performance.

The exterior combines ruggedness with modern cues. Matte grey paint, aluminium beadlock wheels, and LED lighting give it a contemporary edge, while digital MirrorCams replace traditional mirrors for better visibility in tricky environments. Inside, the double cab seats four and brings leather upholstery, contrast stitching, ambient LED lighting, and upgraded ergonomics for comfort during long journeys.
