Mercedes-Benz India has launched the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+, the first E-Class sedan here to combine AMG performance with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Offered in Performance and Racing Editions at Rs 1.45 crore and Rs 1.48 crore ex-showroom, it delivers up to 612 hp, 750 Nm and over 100 km electric range, reinforcing the brand’s powertrain-agnostic strategy.
Mercedes-Benz entered India in 1994 through a joint venture with Tata, then still called Telco, becoming the first German luxury carmaker to manufacture locally in the country. The car it chose to introduce India to luxury motoring was the E-Class, built at Tata's Pune facility and priced at roughly Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom, at the time. Over three decades and multiple generations later, the E-Class remains the longest-running nameplate in the Indian luxury car market, and Mercedes-Benz India has now launched the Mercedes-AMG E 53 Hybrid 4MATIC+, the first sedan in that line-up to pair AMG performance with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The car furthers the brand's "powertrain agnostic" strategy for India, under which customers choose their preferred powertrain rather than being steered toward one.
The E 53 runs a 3.0-litre inline-six engine paired with an electric motor, producing a combined system output of 430 kW (585 hp), which rises to 450 kW (612 hp) when RACE START is engaged, alongside 750 Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz quotes a pure electric range of over 100 km on the WLTP cycle. The sedan goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h, extendable to 280 km/h with the AMG Driver's Package. Standard equipment includes AMG Performance 4MATIC+, a fully variable all-wheel-drive system, and active rear-axle steering with up to 2.5 degrees of steering angle.
The car arrives in two variants, Performance and Racing Editions, priced at Rs. 1.45 crore and Rs. 1.48 crore respectively, ex-showroom, all-India. Alongside the launch, Mercedes-Benz India announced a multi-year title partnership with the Indian Padel Tour for the 2026–27 season. The Mercedes-Benz Indian Padel Tour will run 19 tournaments across 11 cities, including five flagship Grand Slam events.
