Bmw Motorrad Launches the New M 1000 R in India

With its aggressive design and powerful engine, this naked street motorcycle should give a push to BMW’s game in the Indian superbike market.

At INR 33.5 lakh (ex-showroom), the BMW M 1000 R from BMW Motorrad could be yours. Launched on March 16, 2026, the M 1000 R will go up against Ducati’s top-of-the-line version of the Streetfighter V4, which comes in at just under 33 lakh, ex-showroom. So, the question is, what does BMW bring to the table?

In one word—the engine. The M 1000 R uses the same powerplant as the S 1000 RR supersport motorcycle. The tried and tested, water-cooled 999cc inline four-engine produces a peak output of 210 HP and 113 Nm of torque. It rockets up to a top speed of 280 kmph and crosses the 100 kmph marker in just 3.2 seconds, from a standstill. The engine features the BMW ShiftCam technology that increases grunt at low and medium engine revs, while also offering increased power at the peak of the rev range. Rounding things off is an M Quick Action throttle that reduces the angle of rotation needed to get to full throttle position, thereby reducing strain on the rider’s wrist.

The bike uses a 999cc inline-four engine, producing 210HP and 113Nm, with a top speed of 280 kmph.

“The new BMW M 1000 R is a powerful expression of our M genetics, where a high-performance superbike meets a dynamic roadster. It is meticulously crafted for those who demand uncompromising performance, both on the street and the racetrack,” said Harshdeep Singh Brar, president and CEO of BMW Group India.

Design of BMW M 1000 R

Offered with the M Competition Package and advanced components, the model will be brought in as a CBU, with deliveries set to begin in May 2026.

A dual-flow LED headlight, derived from the RR model range, helps create a ready-to-attack face. Complimenting this are M winglets that not only add aggression to the styling language, but also generate around 11 kgs of downforce at 220kmph. The brake ducts are integrated into the front mudguards, which have been optimised for improved airflow around the fork legs and brake calipers. Meanwhile, the M Carbon wheels with M Competition Package stand out, thanks to the clear lacquer coat that brings out the high-quality, deep black shimmering carbon fibre structure beautifully.

The M 1000 R is also available with the M Competition Package, which takes the motorcycle's equipment to the next level. The package includes M Carbon wheels, an M GPS Lap Trigger, and extensive M Carbon bodywork covering the rear wheel, front wheel, chain guard, tank, airbox, wind deflector, and sprocket. Riders also get a fully adjustable milled footrest system, a pillion package, and a pillion cover. Two exclusive colour options are available—Blackstorm Metallic/M Motorsport and White Aluminium Metallic Matt.

The motorcycles, which are being brought to India as Completely Built Units (CBU), can be pre-ordered at BMW Motorrad showrooms across the country. Deliveries start from May 2026.
