Aberlour has gone deeper into its stock with the launch of two new single malt Scotch whisky bottles: the Aberlour 21 Year Old Single Batch whisky and the Aberlour 25 Year Old Single Batch whisky. Released in September 2026, they are now the oldest permanent expressions in the Speyside distillery's range, bringing a quarter century worth of maturation to the forefront. As far as availability of Aberlour 21 and Aberlour 25 single malt Scotch whisky is concerned, then know that they are available in the UK, but it is unclear when they will come to India, if at all.
The Aberlour 21 Year Old Single Batch whisky is bottled at 48% ABV and matured in American and sherry oak casks. Aberlour describes it as a rich and fruity single malt whisky, with cherries and nutmeg at its core. It is also non-chill filtered and crafted in a single small batch. The nose opens with juicy cherries, baked spiced apples, sticky dates and toffee sauce, followed by chocolate ganache and crystallised ginger. On the palate, fresh cranberries and blood orange meet dark chocolate honeycomb and treacle tart, while cinnamon and nutmeg bring a generous layer of warm spice. The finish of the Aberlour 21 Year Old whisky is complex and rich, with lingering spice.
The Aberlour 25 Year Old Single Batch whisky takes another 4 years into maturation. It is bottled at 50.8% ABV, its original cask strength, and is matured in an American oak barrel and Oloroso sherry oak casks. It is also non-chill filtered.
The Aberlour 25 Year Old whisky profile is notably fruit-forward. The nose brings orange, peaches in syrup, red liquorice, butterscotch, marzipan and cinnamon, with sweet toasted oak adding depth. On the palate, fresh apricot, glazed cherries, ripe red plums and vanilla ice cream lead into fresh ginger and a touch of cardamom. The finish in this single malt Scotch whisky is exceptionally fruity and sweet, with a playful layer of spice.
Age is only part of the story. The Aberlour 21 Year Old whisky is produced as a single small batch, while the Aberlour 25 Year Old whisky is made from a small number of hand-selected casks, including a first-fill sherry hogshead. The 25 year old is also bottled at cask strength, making it the more limited and higher-strength of the two.
These single malt Scotch whisky bottles are also significant because they are now Aberlour's oldest permanent releases. That makes them different from simply being older versions of existing bottles: they represent a new top end for the distillery's core range.
