Michter's whiskey takes the number-one position for the fourth consecutive year, making it the Most Admired Whisky in the World in 2026 too. The Kentucky producer also received almost three times as many votes as the next bourbon on the ranking.
Michter's continued success reflects the brand's reputation for quality and consistency, as well as its strong standing among whisky professionals.
Japan’s Yamazaki whisky holds onto second place, once again putting Japanese single malt firmly at the sharp end of the global whisky conversation.
The distillery also has a special connection to the ranking: Yamazaki was named the first-ever World’s Most Admired Whisky when the list launched in 2021. Five years later, it remains one of Japanese whisky’s defining names.
At number three, Hibiki completes an unchanged top three. Suntory’s celebrated Japanese blend continues to earn recognition alongside Yamazaki, showing that Japanese whisky’s global appeal extends beyond single malt.
Its presence also gives the ranking a useful reminder that blending can command just as much admiration as distilling from a single distillery.
Chichibu is arguably the biggest climber in this year’s top five, jumping 12 places to fourth. Founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, the Saitama distillery has developed a devoted following despite its relatively young age. Its small-scale approach and focus on cask selection have helped turn Chichibu into one of Japanese whisky’s most coveted names.
Johnnie Walker whisky lands in fifth, climbing six places up to become the Most Admired Scotch Whisky for the first time. That is quite a statement for a blended Scotch brand. In a ranking where Japanese single malts and premium bourbon dominate the top spots, Johnnie Walker’s showing proves that global scale and serious trade respect can coexist.
