Tennessee whiskey has a character that goes beyond the familiar. From bonded whiskey aged in oak to a 12-year-old bourbon finished with hickory charcoal, the state's distillers are earning recognition for different approaches to production and maturation of whiskey. These 5 award-winning bottles include Old Dominick Bonded, Leiper's Fork Bottled-in-Bond, Peg Leg Porker Black Label 12 Year Old, Uncle Nearest Master Blend Edition and Jack Daniel's 14 Year Old whiskey. 5 Award-Winning Tennessee Whiskeys: Old Dominick, Leiper's Fork, Peg Leg Porker, Uncle Nearest and Jack Daniel's 14 Whiskey

Old Dominick Bonded Tennessee Whiskey

Made in Memphis, Old Dominick Bonded uses a mash bill of 75% corn, 13% rye and 12% malted barley. Although bottled-in-bond whiskey must age for at least four years, the distillery lists the current release at six years. Its flavour profile combines caramel, vanilla, dark honey and baking spices, with oak lending depth to the finish. The whiskey earned Double Gold and Best Tennessee Whiskey at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, followed by Double Gold at the 2026 SIP Awards.

Leiper's Fork Distillery Bottled-in-Bond Tennessee Whiskey

Leiper's Fork uses a mash bill of 70% corn, 15% rye and 15% toasted malted barley, with most of its corn grown locally. Its Bottled-in-Bond Batch 22 is listed at six years old and combines sweet corn, maple syrup and vanilla with toasted oak and rye spice. The whiskey won Best Tennessee Whiskey at the 2026 ASCOT Awards and earned Double Gold at the 2026 SIP Awards. Its pot-still distillation and sugar maple charcoal filtration give it a distinctive place among Tennessee's bonded releases.

Peg Leg Porker Black Label 12 Year Old

Technically a Tennessee straight bourbon rather than Tennessee whiskey, Peg Leg Porker Black Label earns its place through an unusual finishing process. The bourbon matures for at least 12 years in new, charred oak barrels before being filtered through hickory charcoal burned in founder Carey Bringle's smoker pit. Toasted caramel, vanilla and oak lead the flavour profile, with a hint of smoke and spice. It won Platinum with 97 points at the 2026 Global Whisky Challenge, the highest score in that competition.

Uncle Nearest Master Blend Edition

Uncle Nearest Master Blend Edition brings barrel selection and blending to the forefront. Master blender Victoria Eady Butler selects barrels from the brand's 1884 Small Batch programme to create a blend with notes of dark chocolate, caramel, honey, marzipan, baking spices and toasted oak. Blend 072 won Gold with 92 points and the American Blended Whiskey of the Year title at the 2026 London Spirits Competition. Its layered profile makes it an interesting choice for drinkers who prefer complexity over straightforward sweetness.

Jack Daniel's 14 Year Old Tennessee Whiskey

Jack Daniel's 14 Year Old shows how extended maturation can transform a familiar Tennessee whiskey recipe. Aged for 14 years in new, charred American oak barrels, Batch 1 offers notes of seasoned oak, caramel apple, roasted nuts and warming spice. Bottled at 126.3 proof, it has a fuller profile and a long, layered finish. The expression won World's Best Tennessee Whiskey at the 2026 World Whiskies Awards, putting one of the state's most established distilleries back in the spotlight.
